Od 14. do 18. avgusta u Londonu se održava Svetska konvencija za naučnu fantastiku “Loncon 3”, a sinoć su na ovoj manifestaciji proglašeni dobitnici “Hugo” nagrade za dela objavljena 2013. godine. Izbor dobitnika nagrade vrši celokupno članstvo Svetskog društva za naučnu fantastiku, a ove godine nagrade u šesnaest kategorija dodeljene su na osnovu 3.587 ispravnih glasačkih listića.
Nagradu za najbolji roman dobila je En Leki za ostvarenje “Ancillary Justice”, koje predstavlja prvi deo buduće spejs-opera trilogije. Za najbolju novelu odabran je lavkraftovski “Equoid” velikog majstora Čarlsa Štrosa.
Nagrada za najbolju noveletu pripala je Meri Rabinet Koval za “The Lady Astronaut of Mars”, storiju koja je prvobitno bila objavljena kao deo kolekcije audio priča, a tek kasnije putem autorkinog bloga predstavljena širem čitalaštvu i u pisanoj formi.
Za najbolju kratku priču proglašena je “The Water That Falls on You from Nowhere” Džona Čua o svetu u kome s neba pada voda za svaku izgovorenu laž, što naročito teško pada protagonisti zatečenom u ljubavnoj aferi.

- Best Editor – Short Form: Ellen Datlow
- Best Editor – Long Form: Ginjer Buchanan
- Best Professional Artist: Julie Dillon
- Best Semiprozine: Lightspeed Magazine edited by John Joseph Adams, Rich Horton, and Stefan Rudnicki
- Best Fanzine: A Dribble of Ink edited by Aidan Moher
- Best Fancast: SF Signal Podcast Patrick Hester
- Best Fan Writer: Kameron Hurley
- Best Fan Artist: Sarah Webb
Pored “Hugo” nagrade dodeljena je i nagrada “Džon V. Kembel” za najboljeg novog autora fantastike, a ovo laskavo priznanje pripalo je Sofiji Samatar.
Prve večeri konvencije “Loncon 3” dodeljene su i retro “Hugo” nagrade za ostvarenja objavljena tokom predratnih 1938. i 1939. godine. Za najbolji roman iz tog perioda, proglašen je “The Sword in the Stone” Terensa H. Vajta poznatog po serijalu knjiga inspirisanih legendama o kralju Arturu, a zanimljivo je da je za najboljeg pisca amatera proglašen devetnaestogodišnji Rej Bredberi.
